Tuesday, March 10, 2026, CUI, Shama Munir

The Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering at COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus, organized a community service activity at Margalla Hills National Park (Trail 2) on February 16, 2026, to promote environmental responsibility among students and address ecological concerns caused by increasing visitor traffic.

Around 50 male and female students participated in cleaning the trail and surrounding areas, collecting non-biodegradable waste such as plastic bottles, glass, and metal cans. The activity emphasized “Leave No Trace” principles and awareness about the plastic ban within the national park. The session was guided by Mr. Mansoor Sherwani (“Awareness Man”), who shared insights on environmental conservation and responsible tourism.

The initiative highlighted issues including plastic pollution, wildlife disturbance, and soil erosion, while contributing to the protection of local biodiversity such as the Indian leopard, barking deer, and grey goral. The activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), reflecting the university’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
