The Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, jointly organized a workshop titled “Mathematics of Machine Learning” on February 18, 2026. The session was conducted by Engr. Muhammad Umar and attended by undergraduate students from both departments.
The workshop focused on the mathematical foundations of modern machine learning, particularly key linear algebra concepts such as Eigenvalues, Eigenvalue Decomposition (EVD), and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The speaker explained their applications in data representation, dimensionality reduction, and pattern recognition, highlighting the practical differences between EVD and SVD in real-world machine learning problems.
Around 40 students actively participated in the session, gaining valuable insights into the importance of strong mathematical foundations in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science. The workshop effectively connected theoretical concepts with practical applications, encouraging students to strengthen their analytical and problem-solving skills.
