Harvesting Waste Hemp to Build Greener Homes

Tuesday, March 10, 2026, CUI, Shama Munir

As part of a local environmental stewardship initiative, Mr. Abdul Moiz Hassan (FA22-BME-068) participated in a hands-on community service project focused on clearing overgrown hemp plants from residential perimeters. The area had become heavily infested with wild hemp, posing potential risks to neighborhood safety, aesthetics, and ecological balance. Notably, rather than discarding the harvested biomass, the team repurposed the collected hemp plants for a sustainable building materials project, specifically developing thermal insulation panels for residential buildings. This service directly aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
