Islamabad, July 8, 2026 — COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) welcomed a delegation comprising professors from Wuhan Textile University (WTU), China, along with representatives from the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) for a collaborative engagement aimed at strengthening academic, scientific and research cooperation between CUI and WTU and Pakistan and China in particular. The delegates included Dr. Zhaowei Zhang, Dean, School of Biomedical Engineering and Health; Dr. Tang Yun; Dr. Zareen Zuhra; and Dr. Wajid Hussain, all renowned Associate Professors from the WTU School of Biomedical Engineering and Health. They were accompanied by senior officials from PSF Dr. Mirza Habib Ali, Member Science, and Ms. Zaiban Farooq, Principal Scientific Officer (IL).

The visit commenced with a warm reception by Ms. Muniba Nasir, Head of the International Office, followed by a guided tour of the Junaid Zaidi Library, the University's Art Gallery, and the Chinese Corner. The delegation then participated in a meeting held with the senior officials, faculty members and researchers from CUI engaged in strategic discussions with their Chinese counterparts. Representing CUI were Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal, T.I., S.I., Dean, Faculty of Sciences; Prof. Dr. Majid Iqbal Khan, In-Charge, Islamabad Campus; Mr. Atif Bhatti, In-Charge Business Incubation Centre representing the Head, Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC); Prof. Dr. Hammad Omer, T.I., Tenured Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering; Ms. Muniba Nasir, Head International Office; and Mr. Zubair Iqbal, Senior Program Officer, International Office. The discussions were further enriched through the online participation of Prof. Dr. Anila Asif, Head of Department, IRCBM. The meeting featured institutional presentations showcasing CUI's academic excellence, research strengths and international outlook by Ms. Muniba, Head International Office, alongside presentations from Wuhan Textile University highlighting its achievements in biomedical engineering and health sciences.

The deliberations focused on identifying new avenues for institutional collaboration in emerging and multidisciplinary fields, including biomedical engineering, health sciences, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, faculty and student mobility, collaborative research, joint academic projects/initiatives, innovation, commercialization of research, and capacity building, Chinese programs in AI, Biomedical engineering, Belt & Road Initiatives. Participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to developing sustainable partnerships that would contribute to scientific advancement, technological innovation, and human resource development in both Pakistan and China. Member Science, Pakistan Science Foundation extended full support for this collaboration.

A key highlight of the meeting was the briefing by Prof. Dr. Anila Asif, Head of Department, Interdisciplinary Research Center for Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), which showcased CUI's internationally recognized research capabilities and ongoing contributions to translational biomedical research, innovation and commercialization.

The visit concluded with a courtesy call on Prof. Dr. Shahid Khattak, Acting Rector, COMSATS University Islamabad, and Dr. Fahim A. Qureshi, Registrar, during which both sides exchanged views on expanding long-term institutional cooperation and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening strategic academic and scientific partnerships. The engagement concluded with a group photograph.
